You don’t have to use Microsoft® products, in fact the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) recommend you switch to an alternative browser to reduce the threat of severe security threats exploited in Internet explorer 

Internet Explorer accounts for most browsers used worldwide today, and as such is more vulnerable because the hacker will attack more computers by exploiting the flaws in the most common products than they would if they concentrated on the least common.  This is true of email, antivirus, and many more products.
